Vasquez wins forth state title, makes California history.

Riverside, Calif. — Excelsior Charter’s Jesse Vasquez becomes the first Southern California boys wrestler to win four state titles. He beats Rancho Bernardo’s Jaden Le 10-3 to win the 145-pound title. Vasquez is the fourth prep wrestler in California history to make this achievement.

Jesse Vasquez, if he were just the best high school wrestler in California, would be newsworthy. But he’s that and so much more.

Maneuvering on the center mat in the 145-pound title match last Saturday in La Habra, a shock of black hair hangs in front of Vasquez’s face. He’s matinee-idol handsome, as well as unbeaten, whip-smart in the classroom and charismatic.

This week, he’s headed for the state meet in Bakersfield. To dominate.

“I’m still hungry,” the Excelsior senior said last week after winning the Masters meet. “I’m not finished. If people want to see a show, they’ll see one next week at the state meet.”
