Fullerton, CA–The UC Riverside Volleyball Team got their 2017 record back on the plus side of the ledger Saturday night, with a 3-1 victory over Drake in the Titian Tournament finale, 25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19.
Chelsea Doyle posted a career-high 57 assists in just four sets of play, while freshman Mikaela Grove tallied 18 kills, and Brooke Callahan logged a 13 kill-16 dig double-double.
UCR seized full control of the match taking the first two sets having limited the Bulldogs to a .071, and .184 hitting percentage respectively.
In the third set, Drake recovered to hit .538 (15-1-26) as a team en route to claiming the frame 25-19, and get themselves back into the match.
Late in the fourth set with the score 19-18 in favor of the Highlanders, Callahan and Kaiulani Ahuna had two in kills each in UCR’s 6-1 run to closeout the set 25-19, and the match 3-1. The Highlanders stepped-up to hold the Bulldogs to a .159 hitting percentage, while connecting at a .302 rate themselves for the set.
UC Riverside led all teams in tournaments in attack percentage (.242), kills per set (15.80), assists per set (15.30), and dis per set (20.80). Titan Tournament Stats
Meg Graham, who hit .481 in amassing 30 kills, and Nicole Rodriguez, who averaged 5.80 digs per set, were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Highlanders host their first tournament in 10 years Labor Day Weekend with matches in the SRC Arena September 1-2.
