ONTARIO, Calif. – The Ontario Reign (3-2-0-0), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL’s 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, fell to the Bakersfield Condors (3-3-0-0) by a 3-0 score in front of a crowd of 7,016 on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
The Condors opened the scoring with their first shot of the night after Chase Schaber stole the puck from a Reign defender in the corner, and fed it along to Josh Winquist, who banked the puck off the left post and past Jussi Olkinuora at 3:47.
Winquist extended Bakersfield’s lead to two goals at the 16:46 mark, as he made his way from the right circle to the slot and snapped the puck past Olkinuora for his second of the match.
Bakersfield added to its lead at 3:02 of the second period, when Connor Jones received a pass from Francis Verrault-Paul and carried the puck through the slot and fired one high past Olkinuora.
Ontario eventually settled into an offensive groove in the middle frame, as the team put up a game-high 11 shots on goal in the period, but Condors netminder Aaron Crandall managed to turn aside each shot attempt from the Reign.
Olkinuora took his first loss of the season with 24 saves; Crandall earned the shutout victory with 23 stops.
