Fontana, Calif — In celebration of the anticipated holiday season, the Inland Valley Sports Hall of Fame hosted its 1st Annual Turkey Giveaway on two days. The first day of the drive was Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in Riverside, and day two was held, Monday, November 19, 2018 at Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers in San Bernardino. The Inland Valley Sports Hall of Fame mission was to help Inland Empire families celebrate Thanksgiving this year by distributing turkeys, treats and holiday fixings to 40 needy families.
Inland Valley Sports Hall of Fame Executive Board Members, Brian S. Arrington, Eddie Talbert, Jr.—both of whom also serve as On-air Personalities at FOX Sports 1350 AM and John Romagnoli—who serves as Head Basketball Coach of Summit High School, were on site to help distribute food to the families in attendance.
Donations to make the event possible were provided by Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and the Boys & Girls Club of Redlands—Riverside selected families receiving the turkeys.
“This event (annual turkey giveaway) comes full circle for me, I remember being a child, growing up in the inner city, and my mother and I going to food banks to receive not only our thanksgiving dinner, but our daily meals,” said Arrington. “Now that I am in position to give back, it’s an amazing feeling, to see the smiles on these families faces.”
“Events like these, would not be possible without the support of our community partners, when we spoke with Raising Cane’s they were the first to commit, and got right on board,” said Talbert. “We are so grateful for their support, and allowing us to use their facilities to distribute a complete Thanksgiving meal. It was the Boys & Girls Club (of Redlands—Riverside) that engaged the families who were to receive the dinners, so we appreciate all of their efforts.”
In 2014, Fox Sports Radio On-air Personalities, Brian S. Arrington and Eddie Talbert, Jr,; and Summit High School Basketball Coach John Romagnoli started the Inland Valley Classic, with the mission to help improve the quality of life for the Inland Empire community. Each year, the organization host multiple all-star games in multiple sports, free of charge to the participating student athletes. During the games, select student-athletes are awarded with a college scholarship.
