IE Sports Net 2nd Annual National Signing Day
(Fontana, CA) On Wednesday February 4th at 6:00pm at the world renowned Auto Club Speedway of Southern California in Fontana, California and broadcasted on KVMD-TV Ch.23/Los Angeles; sports network IE Sports Net hosted their 2nd annual “Inland Empire” National Signing Day and it did not disappoint. The crowd in attendance witnessed some of the area’s most promising recruits announce their decision regarding which university would receive the honor of their attendance for the next four years. Prior to the start of the event, the excitement was palpable. One could see the nervousness and exhilaration in the player’s faces indicating that this was a monumental event, a gigantic milestone that millions of athletes around the world wish for and dream about from their youth. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation throughout the entire event. The young athletes showcased here were of the very fortunate few who get the opportunity to announce their college choice during a televised signing day.
IE Sports Net definitely capitalized off of last year’s successful National Signing Day event in which they hosted the San Bernardino and Riverside County players of the year in Tre Watson and Tahir Rasheed-Mills. This year featured elite talent as well who committed to Power Five conferences in FBS Division I football. The masters of ceremony Megan Reza alongside IE Sports Net on-air personalities, Brian Arrington and Eddie Talbert Jr. gave in-depth analyses along with each athlete’s commitment.
The athletes in attendance who gave their commitments were Donnie Green (Upland), Michael Neal & Khaylan Thomas (Etiwanda), Jihree Stewart (Corona Centennial), Zamore Zigler (Carter), Tevita Mounga (Vista Murrieta), Remmy Nerio (Arlington), Lavonte Wilson (Colton), Daijon McFoy (Carter) and last but not least Robert Evans. The Power Five teams who received commitments at the event were Arizona State University who received a commitment from Khaylan Thomas, University of Washington who received a commitment from Michael Neal, and Jihree Stewart who committed to the University of Oregon. Mid-major teams received commitments as well as Donnie Green committed to Fresno State University and Tevita Mounga committed to Brigham Young University.
Upon speaking with Brian Arrington and Eddie Talbert Jr. concluding the event, both were pleased and honored to host a successful event with a larger than anticipated crowd of players and families who were ecstatic to be recognized. Despite the Inland Empire’s vast pool of talent, players are often overlooked and this was a positive step in the right direction in obtaining publicity and honoring the Inland Empire’s elite. IE Sports Net will look to continue the tradition next year and host an even more significant event while continuing to enhance and uphold the IE Sports Net legacy.
