(Temecula, CA) Drew Bres, New Orleans Saints’ quarterback is narrating an ESPN television segment about Ruiz and his recovery. The segment aired Sunday (Feb. 3) before Super Bowl 53, during “Postseason NFL Countdown.” Linfield Christian quarterback Alex Ruiz, who lost a portion of his right leg after an injury last season, got the surprise of a lifetime from his NFL idol, Drew Brees.
The two first met when Brees surprised the former high school quarterback with a prosthetic leg, to use after he sustained a severe game injury that led to an amputation just below the knee. In a incredible comeback, Ruiz was able to take the field again and throw a touchdown!
In addition to Brees, Ruiz was assisted in his recovery by Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller. It was during a game in New Orleans that Miller sustained a severe leg injury similar to Ruiz’s.
