SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The CSUSB Coyotes erased a nine-point halftime deficit and defeated No. 16 UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon, 77-75, following Andres Villa’s game-winner with four seconds left.
The Yotes seized the lead midway through the second half and led by 12 with three minutes left. The Tritons got hot from three and tied the game with 19 seconds left on a pair of foul shots. On the game winner, Malik Rhodes drove the lane and found Villa for the drop off, which he finished in traffic.
Garrett Baggett hit tough shot after tough shot in the second half, finishing with 20 points, going seven-of-12 from the field. The offense ran through Daytone Jennings and Andres Villa in the post, and they finished with 20 and 17 respectively. CSUSB dominated the glass, 42-25, with 16 offensive boards. Jennings led with eight boards.
CSUSB shot a scorching 54 percent from the field and scored 44 points in the paint.
“Tonight was about effort and who wanted it more,” Baggett said. “When we play together, defend, and rebound, there isn’t anybody better.”
