Recap-2019 Riverside Sheriff’s Association All-star game: NW 42, SE 21

Riverside, Calif., — In the 3rd annual Riverside Sheriff’s Association All-Star game, the Southeast landed the first punch in the form a with a 53 yard pass from QB Devin Dillard to Koale Schroeder, who beat coverage down the middle of the field to put them inside the 10 yard line.

Running back Brandon Clemons would cash in on 3rd & goal from inside the 5 to put the Southeast up 7-0.

SE Coach Esposito then directed his squad to attempt an onside kick, which the Southeast recovered.

Nicholas Thornburg then got his turn at QB, and after a few successful plays, he linked up with WR Mason Carvalho out of the slot for a 24 yard score to make it 14-0.

Southeast pooch kicked, but NW cleanly collected the ball this time.

Norco High school QB, Nick Lasher kept the Northwest’s first drive alive, when he escaped the rush on 4th and long, and while on the move, he hit WR Jameer Robinson along the sideline to pick up a first down.

After a couple plays in SE territory, the NW drive ended.

SE then advanced to a three score advantage when Dillard connected with two-way player WR/DB Jordan Aubert, midway through the second quarter.

Following a turnover on downs, SE continued to step on the gas, as wide receivers Carvalo and Schroeder connected on a reverse pass play that saw Carvalho make a throw that traveled 40 yards in the air into the arms of Schroder, who did the rest on the 65-yard scoring play.


After the game, Carvalho shared that he primarily played quarterback his junior year.

NW activated the lights on their side of the scoreboard, when a pair of Notre Dame high school teammates, Rodney Koenig (QB) & (RB) Tyler Mosley, linked up for a 68-yard score to make it 28-7 just before halftime.

Early in third, Lasher scored from three yards out on 4th down to trim the deficit to two scores, 28-14.

Although the NW had found their offensive rhythm, they still had no answer for Carvalho, who would score his 3rd TD of the night on a 54 yard catch and run on a wide receiver screen to restore the SE’s three score margin.


With the SE threatening in the red zone, Northwest CB Jeremiah Flores picked off Dillard at the goal line and returned it out to the NW 25 yard line.

On the first play of the drive, Lasher hit Valley View’s Sean Norwood in stride down the sideline for a 75-yard score to make it 35-21.

Late in the 4th quarter, Alex Hill of Vista Murrieta got in position to snag a pass tipped by a teammate for the game sealing score on 4th and 6 from the 15 yard line.

The SE All-stars claimed the 42-21 victory, led by game MVP Mason Carvalho’s 3 TDs (2 receiving, 1 passing). He will receive a scholarship for winning the game’s MVP award. Carvalho stated that was interested in studying radiology, and is still open to offers. 

Coach Esposito rode the momentum of his turnaround season at Temecula Valley to a win the 3rd annual Riverside Sheriff’s Association Classic.

The NW team was led by Norco QB Nick Lasher, who was responsible for 3 TDs (2 passing, 1 running).
